About The AHMA

AHMA - Rocky Mountain Region

The Affordable Housing Management Association (AHMA) is an association representing companies and individuals involved with the management of affordable housing and, in particular, with the management of multifamily housing communities developments subject to the regulations of federal agencies.

The management of affordable housing is a specialized business, requiring skills and programmatic knowledge not required of other real estate management professionals. The members of AHMA strongly believe that participants in the affordable housing industry, private and public, must abide by high ethical standards in connection with their business affairs, and must strive to comply with all applicable program requirements.

As the stewards of low-and moderate-income housing, no one knows better than AHMA's members how affordable housing operates, what works and doesn't work, and what should be done. Since the 1970s, AHMA members have been actively involved in federally regulated housing programs. Today, as the housing environment is changing, AHMA has adjusted its focus to include all types of affordable housing including housing developed using Low-Income Housing Tax Credits.

Our Mission

AHMA advocates a supply adequate to meet the growing need for multifamily, residential affordable housing by bringing nationwide attention to the necessity of preserving decent and safe housing. The foundation of AHMA's vital mission is based upon:
  • Solid partnerships with HUD, Congress, RHS, State Housing Agencies, and Housing Credit Monitoring Agencies
  • Promotion of industry standards for professionals in affordable housing management through initiating and maintaining professional education and certification programs: National Affordable Housing Professional ® (NAHP ®), Housing Credit Certified Professional, (HCCP), Certified Professional of Occupancy, (CPO), and Fair Housing Compliance (FHC).
  • Commitment to Communities of Quality for families living in affordable housing.
  • Preservation of existing units of affordable housing.

Our Message

Now, more than ever, it is vital that we as a nation not only protect low-income housing, but also ensure appropriate government involvement at all levels. That public/private partnership will take advantage of the best both sectors have to offer to low-income residents, and it is more efficient and less expensive to the country.
